Baird's Tapir
Baird's Tapir is Central America's largest native land mammal, and the exhibit at Zoo Miami in Richmond West offers a rare chance to see this shy, lumbering animal in person. With its flexible prehensile snout and barrel-shaped body, the tapir has a prehistoric charm that children and adults find immediately endearing.
This species is considered endangered in the wild, threatened by habitat loss throughout its range from Mexico to Colombia. A visit to this exhibit is a great way to connect with the conservation challenges facing tropical forests, while enjoying one of the more unique animals at the park.
