Yellow-Billed Hornbill

The Yellow-Billed Hornbill is one of the more charismatic and expressive birds at Zoo Miami in Richmond West. Instantly recognizable by its oversized yellow bill — which curves dramatically downward — this East African species has a face that visitors tend to describe as both comical and dignified at the same time. Hornbills are known for their distinctive calls and their habit of tossing food into the air before catching it. Watching this behavior live is a genuine crowd-pleaser, and the bird's animated expressions make it one of the most-photographed species in the park's avian collection.
