Gemsbock

The Gemsbok — also spelled Gemsbuck — is a large, powerfully built antelope of the Kalahari and Namib deserts, and few animals carry their horns with more authority. Both males and females sport long, straight horns that can reach remarkable lengths, giving the Gemsbok a formidable profile even at rest. At Zoo Miami in Richmond West, this southern African species adds a dramatic presence to the park's ungulate collection. Watching them stand in the open with their bold black-and-white facial markings is a straightforward but genuinely striking wildlife experience.
