Toucans

Toucans are among the most recognizable birds in the world, and the exhibit at Zoo Miami in Richmond West never fails to delight. Their oversized, brilliantly colored bills — which look almost too large for their bodies — are actually lightweight and serve as important tools for feeding, thermoregulation, and visual communication. Watching toucans hop between branches, toss berries into the air to swallow them, and interact with one another is endlessly entertaining. A staple of South American tropical forests, they represent one of the most joyful encounters in Zoo Miami's Latin American wildlife collection.
